Is your silver jewellery stamped with hallmarks?

Nearly every item of silver jewellery that we sell is stamped with a 925 hallmark. Only those items excluded by law from hallmark requirements may not be hallmarked. Our customers can rest assured that all of our sterling silver jewellery conforms to the required standards of purity and quality.

The hallmark originated in the early Middle Ages in England. At first only the Goldsmith’s Hall in London was able to mark silver – thus the word hallmark, being a mark given in Goldsmith’s Hall, came into common use.

Today in the UK there are four Assay Offices capable of hallmarking silver jewellery. These are located in London, Birmingham, Sheffield and Edinburgh. Any of these offices may have inspected and hallmarked our jewellery.

The law concerning hallmarked jewellery is rigorous. The Hallmarking Act 1973 was substantially altered in early 1999 to integrate with European law.

We are proud to say that all our silver jewellery, from our contemporary sterling silver to our silver designer jewellery range, complies with the law.
